- Almost a million shelter pets get euthanized every year according to ASPCA, of which at least half a million are cats.
- Over 4 million animals get adopted yearly in the USA, the majority of which are mixed breed dogs.
- Pet adoption increases year on year, but still, more dogs are bought from breeders than adopted from shelters.

Why adopt a pet
The most urgent reason to adopt a pet is to save a life! However, there are many other benefits too. Getting an animal from a shelter, instead of from a breeder, helps reduce pet overpopulation. It also supports a noble cause and promotes kindness to animals. Furthermore, your act may inspire others to follow your example and spread the good!
And last but not least, a new pet into your life would bring in more smiles, companionship, new friends, together with a number of health benefits! Think better mood, improved routine, reduced anxiety, blood pressure regulation and more…
Other ways you can help
You can help shelter animals not only through adoption, but by making a donation too. The money would usually go directly into buying food, meds and other pet essentials.
In addition, you can join a community, committed to saving animals, like the Best Friends’ Action Team. You can also spread the word about pet adoption yourself and encourage others to get involved too!
Another way to help animals in need, is to honor the ‘Adopt a pet day’ on April 11 and raise awareness about shelter pets euthanasia…
