August 26 is the official International Dog Day.
The holiday was founded by animal advocate Colleen Paige exactly 20 years ago! And the purpose of it was not only to celebrate men’s best friend, but to also raise awareness about shelter dogs.
The date is not random either – when Colleen was 10 years old, her family adopted a dog for the very first time on August 26. And this is what inspired the young dog-lover to later on start the Dog Day Foundation.
